Bull Moose Rut Phases: A Week-by-Week Calendar for Quebec and Ontario
The Moose Rut is Not One Event - It's Four
Most hunters treat the moose rut as a uniform window. The most successful hunters know that bull moose behavior shifts dramatically week by week - and the right attractant for September 10 is completely wrong for October 5.
Phase 1: Pre-Rut (September 1-15, Quebec/Ontario)
Bulls are restless but cows aren't in estrus yet. Testosterone is rising. Best approach: mineral sites and ATRAK to maintain site familiarity. Start light PURINE applications in the last days of this phase.

Phase 1 product - keeps bulls coming to your site as testosterone begins rising

Bulls begin responding to cow calls. First cows may be entering estrus. PURINE applications should be daily. Mock wallow if you have one should be active and recharged.

Phase 2: apply daily starting September 15 - the window opens fast and closes fast

The golden window. Bulls are in rut frenzy - active at all hours, responding to all stimuli. PURINE + calling combination is unstoppable. Hunt all day if you can get in.
Phase 4: Post-Rut Breeding (October 3-20)
Bulls are with individual cows. Movement becomes less predictable. Maintain sites but reduce disturbance. Focus on areas where you've seen cow groups - bulls follow cows, not your site.
