5 reasons your deer mineral site isn't working (and how to fix each one)
You did everything right - so why isn't the deer using it?
You found what looks like a perfect spot. You bought good mineral products. You waited. And the trail camera shows nothing but empty ground. Here's what actually went wrong.
Reason #1: You put it in the wrong place
The most common mistake. Deer mineral sites must be in quiet, low-pressure areas near natural travel corridors. Placing a mineral site near your vehicle access trail or main camp path guarantees failure - deer detect human activity and avoid the area.
Fix: Move the site 200m+ from any regular human access route. Near water is a bonus.
Reason #2: You didn't start early enough
Mineral sites work on a seasonal logic. A site installed in August cannot do what a site installed in May does. Deer need months to discover, evaluate, and incorporate a new site into their routine.
Fix: Install your mineral site by May 1st, every year, without exception.
Reason #3: You visited too often
Every visit you make to your mineral site leaves a scent trail. If you visit weekly, deer learn to associate the site with human activity. Their visits shift to nighttime only - or stop entirely.
Fix: Maximum 1 visit per month to recharge product. Use a trail camera to monitor without physically entering the area.
Reason #4: Wrong product for your soil
Some mineral products don't dissolve well in certain soil types. Mineral ProX is our soil-penetrating formula specifically designed to be effective in both sandy and clay-heavy Canadian soils.
Reason #5: Not enough product
A handful of mineral doesn't cut it. Apply 2-3kg minimum per installation and recharge when activity shows the product is being consumed.
