Bear Hunting Summer 2026: How to Find Bears and Set Baits That Work
Summer Bear Hunting: the Best Time You're Not Taking Seriously
Spring gets all the attention for bear hunting, but summer offers distinct advantages: bears are in predictable patterns, coats are in excellent condition, and hunting pressure is minimal. If your province allows summer bear, this is your opportunity.
Finding Summer Bears
Summer bears follow berry crops and protein sources. In July-August in Quebec and Ontario, look for: berry patches (blueberry, saskatoon), ant colonies in deadfall, agricultural fields (oats especially), and river corridors for spawning fish.

Our #1 bear attractant - apply on trees upwind at height for maximum scent dispersion

Summer heat increases olfactory dispersion - bear noses work harder in warm weather. Apply Bearfume generously on trees surrounding your bait at 3-4m height. The scent disperses broadly in summer thermals and reaches bears from 1km+ away.
Heat Management at Your Site
Summer baits degrade fast in heat. Check every 24-48 hours maximum. Position your bait in shade to slow decomposition. A bait that smells rotten within 12 hours teaches bears not to return - you want fresh, consistent product.
