Mineral Blocks for Moose: How Minerals Change Your Hunt
The Most Overlooked Tool in Moose Hunting
Most moose hunters focus entirely on rut attractants - PURINE, cow calls, wallows. The hunters who consistently kill moose year after year have one thing in common that most don't talk about: they run mineral sites from spring through August.
Why Moose Use Mineral Sites
Moose are among the most mineral-deficient large mammals in North America. Sodium, calcium, and phosphorus are chronically scarce in boreal forest soils. Moose travel kilometers to reach salt and mineral sources - and return habitually once they find a reliable site.

View ProductWhen to Install Your Moose Mineral Site
April-May is ideal. Snow melt, fresh growth, and post-winter mineral depletion make moose actively seek supplemental minerals at this time. An April installation gives you 4-5 months of site establishment before your September hunt.
Location Selection
Install near water - within 200m of a lake, river, or wetland. Moose naturally concentrate around water in summer and mineral sites near water are discovered faster. Avoid locations that flood in spring melt.
