The Complete Moose Wallow Guide: Setup, Timing, and What to Put in It
What Is a Moose Wallow and Why Do Bulls Make Them?
During the rut, bull moose dig shallow depressions in the ground, urinate in them, and roll to coat their body with a mud-urine mixture. This scent marking signals their dominance and attracts cows from long distances. Bulls use the same wallows year after year.
How to Identify a Moose Wallow
Look for: a shallow oval depression (1-2m wide), disturbed soil/mud, strong musky odor, large hoof prints, nearby antler rubs on trees 1-2m high, and game camera activity at dawn and dusk.
Creating a Mock Wallow
Dig a shallow depression (30-40cm deep, 1.5m wide) near a natural low spot with some moisture. Loosen soil, add water to create mud. Apply attractant directly to the mud and to the surrounding trees at shoulder height.

Apply directly to mock wallow mud - creates an authentic female scent signature that bulls respond to

View ProductWallow vs Calling: Which First?
Establish the wallow 2-3 weeks before your hunt. On hunting days: let the wallow work passively. Only add calling if a bull is confirmed nearby but stalling. Combining an active wallow scent with cow calls is extremely difficult to resist during peak rut.
